An original steel engraving from The first series of the British Comic Almanack Vol.I Oct.1842. ( 7X4.5 h and 5.5 x3 w) Cruikshank was another very close friend and illustrator for Dickens. The two eventually had a falling out over liquor. Dickens believed in moderation, but Cruikshank became a teetotaler in later life. After the disagreement about libations, Cruikshank began to spread the word that it was he who wrote the story of Oliver Twist. Well, at least we know he illustrated it.
